Social Media Marketing in Nepal: How It’s Changing the Game for Businesses in 2025
I still remember the first time I heard the term “digital marketing”—it sounded big, technical, and kind of confusing. But after completing my course recently, one thing became very clear: social media marketing is no longer just a trend in Nepal—it’s a necessity.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Everywhere I look now, businesses are waking up to this new way of connecting with people. From local cafes in Kathmandu to home-run clothing stores in Pokhara, everyone is using social media to grow, and many are getting amazing results with very little investment.
The Shift Is Real
Not long ago, most Nepali businesses relied on traditional methods—posters, pamphlets, word-of-mouth, maybe a radio jingle if they had the budget. But now, with over 13 million social media users in Nepal, the way we do business is changing fast.
Small businesses especially are realizing that platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube can help them reach thousands of people—without spending lakhs on advertising. A simple Instagram Reel, a Facebook offer post, or a behind-the-scenes TikTok video can bring in more customers than a banner on the street.
And the best part? It doesn’t matter if you’re a small tea stall or a big real estate company—social media levels the playing field.
What’s Working in Nepal Right Now?
If you’re thinking about jumping into social media marketing, you might be wondering where to start. The good news is—you don’t need to be everywhere. In Nepal, the platforms that are working best right now are:
Facebook is still the king when it comes to reach and ads. Most businesses have a Facebook Pagenow, and they’re using it to share offers, updates, and even run paid ads. I’ve seen local stores boost posts with just Rs. 500 and reach thousands of potential customers in their area.
Instagram is the go-to platform for anything visual. From bakers to makeup artists to photographers—everyone is showcasing their work using posts, reels, and stories. And the engagement? It’s high. People are watching, liking, and even buying straight from DMs.
TikTok, honestly, surprised me the most. It’s no longer just for fun or dancing—many businesses in Nepal are using it smartly. Short, simple videos showing how a product is made, how it’s packaged, or just funny customer moments—these go viral fast. And when a video picks up, so do the sales.
YouTube remains strong for longer content. Travel vloggers, product reviewers, and even educators are using it to grow their brand and income. It takes more effort but builds deep trust with an audience.
And yes, LinkedIn is slowly growing too, especially for people like me who are trying to build a professional identity in the digital world.
Real Stories, Real Results
While learning about social media marketing, I kept an eye on how Nepali businesses are using it. And I was honestly inspired.
A home-based baker in Pokhara grew her Instagram to over 3,000 followers just by showing her cake designs and packaging process. She’s now booked for weeks in advance.
A clothing brand in Hetauda went viral on TikTok with just one funny video showing their delivery routine. That one post brought in over 100 orders.
Even local service providers—like electricians or tuition centers—are using Facebook ads to promote themselves in their local area and getting more calls than ever before.
Starting is Easier Than You Think
When I first started learning about social media marketing, I thought it was all about high-end tools and professional shoots. But the truth is, you can start with just a phone, some basic editing apps, and your ideas.
The first step is knowing who you want to talk to. Are your customers students? Young moms? Adventure travelers? Think about what they like to see and hear.
Next, pick the platform where they’re most active. Don’t try to be on every app. Start with one—maybe Facebook or Instagram—and get comfortable posting regularly. And by regularly, I mean 3 to 4 times a week with content that’s useful, fun, or inspiring.
Don’t make every post a sales pitch. Share behind-the-scenes moments. Talk about your challenges. Celebrate small wins. These things connect with people far more than just product prices.
Tools That Help (Without Costing Anything)
There are so many free tools that make social media easier. Canva is my go-to for designing posts. Even with zero design skills, you can make your content look polished. Cap Cut is great for editing short videos, especially for TikTok and Reels. And Meta Business Suite lets you schedule posts and track how they’re performing.
Just last week, I helped a friend who owns a small tea shop in Dang create his first Instagram page. We made a few simple posts using Canva, showed a video of his “special chai” being made, and added some hashtags like #DangFood and #NepaliChiya. In one week, he gained over 500 followers—and new customers showed up saying, “We saw you on Insta!”
Mistakes I Made (So You Don’t Have To)
When I started experimenting with content, I made a few mistakes. I posted only promotional content (like offers and prices) and didn’t get much response. Then I tried copying someone else’s style—it felt forced, and again, no results.
What worked? Being real. Posting about my journey, sharing what I was learning, asking questions, and even replying to every comment. That’s when people started noticing—and engaging.
So don’t worry about being perfect. Focus on being consistent, honest, and helpful. That’s what people love.
Final Thoughts: It’s Time to Show Up
Social media isn’t just a marketing tool—it’s a conversation platform. And in Nepal, it’s giving every business, no matter how small, the chance to grow and compete.
If you’re a business owner, freelancer, or someone thinking of switching to digital marketing like I did, I want to tell you this:
Start now. Start simple. But start.
Your audience is already online. It’s time you show up too.
And if you ever feel stuck, confused, or just want someone to look at your page and give honest feedback—I’m here. I’ve been there. I’m still learning too. But that’s the beauty of social media—it grows as we grow.
